MokaFive has released MokaFive Suite 3.0, a new version of the virtual machine management solution for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The new version adds complete support for running Windows 7 in a "LivePC" layered virtual machine package, enabling Windows 7 to be deployed remotely, without going to the PC or Mac. Version 3.0 also includes anti-malware scanning from AGV, built-in as a layer. If malware is detected, the virtual machine is shut down. A reboot restores it to its pre-virus state, but with user data intact.
Version 3.0 also adds a new Service Provider Edition, which enables managed service providers (MSPs) to provide MokaFive's desktop management from the cloud. It provides multi-tenancy, golden image management tools and consolidated cross-tenant reporting. Service Providers can now provide managed desktop services with a shared infrastructure that is lightweight and easily scalable.
MokaFive is a unique approach to desktop virtualization. (See our explanation of how it works here.) It distributes virtual desktops that run on local PCs and Macs but which are centrally managed. Administrators can selectively role back the operating and IT-install applications in a virtual machine without touching the user data or settings. It uses a technique called "virtual layers" to selectively manage pieces within virtual machines running on Mac, Windows, and Linux workstations, without affecting other portions. Administrators can also update, add, or remove specific components in multiple users' virtual machines. For instance, an administrator can apply an operating system patch to the single golden image that is distributed to users, but all users' customization remains. A single reboot enacts the changes. Users can also initiate a rollback to a previous state with the Rejuvenate button.
MokaFive Suite 3.0 is available as a free trial.
