I have a lion server and it's IP4v address is manually configured. I have a DNS server and have created a record on the DNS server for the server's hostname and that host name is tied to the IP address that is configured or reserved on our DHCP server. The strangest things keeps happening. The DNS hostname after 1 or 2 days will disappear and I can't ping it and our server which is an OD Master goes away except for the IP address. I can always ping the IP address. When I do an nslookup on the dns server with the IP address I see the hostname but when I try to do the hostname I get hostname not found. When I try to ping the hostname I get nothing back. I had the DNS server admin create a dns record about 4 times now. Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on? The OD server is tied into AD and is passing authentication to our Mac clients.
