Sorry if my text formatting and stuff doesn't make sense I'm dyslexic but hopefully you guys can read this.
Ok so I've got a macbook pro with snow leopard on it (OS X.6.4) and a Desktop with windows 7 on it.
I'm trying to network the two together so I can access the files from either computer from either computer.
So far I've managed to get a far as Mounting what ever I share on my Desktop on my mac with read and write access, sometimes I can see my Macbook on my Desktop but when i click to look in there it won't let me from the network Tab from the side of the explorer window. I started from searching forums for where I'm up to so far and managed to get my macbook to connect to the desktop as as guess user, and then I tried to take it one step further and added a password to the situation by creating a user on my Desktop called "Macbook" and gave it a password and with a little bit of fiddling I changed the settings in the homegroup to
Home or Work(Current profile) -Turn on network Discover -Turn on file and printer sharing -Turn on Sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders -Use 128-bit encryption to help protect file sharing connections -Turn on password protected Sharing -Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other other computers
So from these settings I've managed to get my Macbook to connect by going Command+K and typing "smb://192.168.2.2" I just can't get my windows computer to work and see my Macbook and connect to it. I've tried these Ip adress it tells me in the sharing settings like "afp://192.168.2.3" "ftp://192.168.2.3" So I decided to try cmd and ping those ips since i always remembered my internet provider telling me to do that on the odd occasion when i had a problem and came to the conclusion windows doesn't seem to like afp or ftp or smb in front of the ip adress, other than that when I try the ip adress 192.168.2.3 i get no response until i turned off stealth mode in security settings on my firewall.
So ummm where do i go now to get windows 7 to recognize my Mac? I can save a file in my documents on Windows and view is straight away on my mac through the mounted drive/ folder, I can even write to that drive/ folder, but I can't seem to get windows to recognize my Mac. Any suggestions?
