Hey few days back I suffered with the blue screen of death problem. However I tried the foolowing -

Try to start your Mac with the DVD that came along with your system. Make sure you use the DVD that came with the system. Any other disk wont work.

Try to use safe mode option to restart your Mac. If the startup of Mac in safe mode is successful then choose the below option - Apple menu > Restart. If the computer restarts normally then blue screen problem is solved.

Choose safe mode and on seeing the login window screen. Asking for a user name and password if the startup does not proceed then it might be due to incompatible combinations of login items.

Solving the incompatible Login Items - Repair the startup disk by starting up from your Mac OS X installation disc. Use Disk Utility.

Create a Back-up copy – Create a back-up copy of your disc and choose to re-install Mac OS X with the installation DVD.
