Office Business Edition with Entourage WSE, surpasses Snow Leopard's Exchange support

Monday, September 28, 2009

Microsoft recently shipped Office 2009 Business Edition (US $400 or $240 upgrade) to replace the previous standard edition and Special Media Edition. The new bundle includes both the standard Entourage 2008 and Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition (WSE), which Microsoft released last month by itself. Entourage WSE offer greater compatibility with Exchange Server as well as faster communications, but requires Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 Rollup 4 or later--it won't work with earlier versions of Exchange. Exchange WSE is also available separately as a a free upgrade to Entourage 12.1.1...

Reader problem with Entourage WSE and shared calendars

Monday, October 12, 2009

Brian Wesselhoff has a problem with booked meetings not being displayed in Entourage Web Services Edition:

We have an issue where we use the built-in conference room scheduling in Exchange 2007. We just started migrating some users over to the Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition. When a non-domain admin opens another users' calendar (in this case a room resource), some of the booked meetings are not displayed. However, we come to find that in the planner you can see that they are booked. If you login with this user on a PC and Outlook 2003 or 2007, you can see the meetings in the room resource calendar fine. I also have no issue seeing these missing appointments logged in as myself (a Domain Admin) with the new Entourage Web Services Edition. We are running at the latest service pack and patch level on Exchange 2007. Is this a bug, a permissions issue, or what? These meetings also show up correctly on an Entourage 2008 user that is not running the Web Services Edition.

Problem with Entourage WSE mail seen as plain text only

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Marco Novelli in Italy reported a problem with the new Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition:

I recently updated my Entourage 2008 to WSE (Web Services Edition) and my Exchange 2007 Server to SP2. Now most of email that I write are sent as plain text. I've not been able to reproduce 100% the behavior: most of the time the issue appear when replying to email. Even If I select “HTML” from Format menu the mail is sent in plain text.

It seems to me to have done a fast rewind to begin of '90. I'm feeling the issue is located at Entourage level and not at Exchange level, because when I reply to an email I can see Entourage adding the quotation mark '>' in the reply body.

TIP: Fix for Entourage WSE plain text problem

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Marcus Jaensson solved the problem with Entourage Web Services Edition seeing Exchange mail as plain text:

We had this problem and it's a setting on the Exchange Server:

Set-remotedomain -> ContentType should be set to "MimeHtmlText" not to "MimeText".

Micrsoft has some information here. Scroll down to ContentType.

Issue with private events and Entourage Web Services Edition

Monday, October 26, 2009

Jason Kuo reports that Entourage Web Services Edition (WSE) can't see private events:

We've got an issue with private events not being viewable with Entourage Web Services Edition (13.0). We have Exchange 2007, and all clients running Entourage 13 and 10.5.8. With Entourage 12.2.1, people are able to see that another user has a private event, labeled "Private Event." This is true for both Leopard (10.5.8) and Snow Leopard (10.6.1). However, with Entourage 13.0 WSE, people cannot see private events of other users, UNLESS they have full access permissions AND have the entire folder tree added to their Entourage identity. If users have only added the user's calendar, private events are not viewable - it just appears as an empty slot on their calendar.

Strangely enough, if you use the scheduling tab when creating an invitation, it appears to pull the Free/Busy information correctly from the Exchange server, and can report that the user is indeed busy, and hovering your mouse over the busy block shows Private Event.
