Thursby Software Systems shipped PKard for Mac 1.1 (US$30, free update), and update to the software that enables U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Mac users with Common Access Cards (CACs) to access secure web sites and web-based VPNs. The new version adds support for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and support for secure mail signing and encryption and decryption in Apple Mail.
Pkard supports all US Government CAC and PIV smart cards via Thursby TokenD drivers. Pkard 1.1 adds support for newer PIV II CAC smart cards (also known as Next Generation CAC, CAC-NG or CACNG), including the Gemalto TOP DL GX4 144K and Oberthur ID One 128 v5.5 Dual.
Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 (Leopard and Snow Leopard) had partial support for smart cards. With Lion, however, Apple removed all components and services for Common Data Security Architecture from Mac OS X. Pkard 1.1 adds the required services to Lion, also provides full Smart Card support to Leopard and Snow Leopard.
PKard's functionality is included in Thursby Software's ADmitMac PKI, Active Directory integration software.
Pkard works with Apple Safari and Google Chrome for secure web web and web VPN access, as well as Outlook Web Access mail.
Thursby also offers PKard for iOS, which provides similar functionality to PKard for Mac but on Apple iPads and iPhones.
