Thunderbolt Boot Camp problems still seen with Win 8.1 Update 1

Arthur reports that the recently released Windows 8.1 Update 1 still has problems with Thunderbolt devices when booting a Mac. This was not unexpected, since Microsoft hasn't announced support of standard. Apple's workaround is to turn off Fast Startup in Windows, but this doesn't seem to help everyone. Arthur wrote:

I am running Windows 8.1 Update 1 and it's still happening. (BTW, I have completely removed Apple's OSX from the Mac.) The wired Thunderbolt network drops intermittently -- I can't seem to detect a pattern. The wireless network appears to work just fine.

This has been hounding me for since I bought the very first released MacBook Pro 15" Retina. It happens regardless of the network driver installed (15.4.0.17, 15.6.13 or 16.2.0.4b). It happens regardless of the Boot Camp 5 version (5.0.5033, 5.1.5621, 5.1.5640).

The SMB 3 Ethernet adapter you mentioned is a cheap alternative to Apple's Thunderbolt adapter, but I need my USB3 for other things. Gee wiz, I have two Thunderbolt ports and it would be nice if I could use them. I am now wishing that Apple installed three USB3 ports on the left side.
