Parallels has released Parallels 7 Desktop for Mac Build 7.0.15055, an update for the virtualization software for Macs. The update adds "experimental support" for running the new Windows 8 Consumer Preview in a virtual machine. It also adds the ability to run Apple's Mountain Lion Developer Preview (OS X 10.8) in a virtual machine, as well as run on a Mountain Lion host OS. Since both new preview OS's are still early pre-release versions and prone to bugs, running them in a virtual machine is a safe and easy way to install and run.
The update also adds Windows 8 to its installation interface, enabling users to download and install Windows 8 from the Parallels New Virtual Machine wizard. This is accessed from the Parallels Desktop menu and then selecting File, New and Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Parallels Desktop 7 will download and install Windows 8 Consumer Preview in a new virtual machine.
Parallels recommends deleting the Windows 8 virtual machine and recreating it if the Preview starts crashing.
The new build also enables iOS users of Parallels Mobile to remotely access and control Windows 8 virtual machines from an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
As with previous builds of Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, the new build continues to support virtual machines running Windows 7, OS X Lion, Google Chrome OS, and Fedora and Ubuntu Linux on a Mac host OS.
