Apple has issued its first Mountain Lion update, OS X 10.8.1, which addresses several issues with Macs in Windows environments. Apple said the update improves compatibility when using Mail to connect to Microsoft Exchange Server. The update also improves 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials and resolve an issue when connecting to SMB file sharing servers with long names. Other fixes include:
- Addressing an issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file
- Resolving an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit
- Addressing an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display
- Resolving an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent
Apple hasn't mentioned if the update addresses a problem some MacBook users are having with reduced battery life, though some reports around the web are saying that the update does fix the problem.
The OS X 10.8.1 update is available through OS X's Software Update mechanism, and is also available as a manual download. Please
