Group Logic has released MassTransit 7.2, an update to the software for automating and managing large file transfers between Macs, Windows PCs, and Linux. The new version adds features to restore interrupted file transfers and to customize web interface. There is also a new option for a plug-in for Outlook for Windows for initiating file transfers directly from Outlook.
If the network connection drops during a file transfer, the new CheckPoint Restore feature can resume the transfer from the point of interruption rather than from the beginning--feature useful for multi-gigabyte sized files, particularly in international file transfers.
Web UI Skinning is a MassTransit 7.2 feature that enables customization of MassTransit's web user interface to reflect the look and feel of the organization's own web site or brand.
The Outlook for Windows plug-in, available for an additional fee, enables users to send files directly from Outlook. The user attaches files or folders to an Outlook email message addressed to one or more recipients who are also using MassTransit. The file is then sent by MassTransit, avoiding any mail server restrictions in file size and using the security features of MassTransit.
MassTransit uses a proprietary file transfer protocol called MTAP that can correctly handle Mac files sent to Windows users and other cross-platform issues. The MTAP protocol also enables the user to select a UDP file transfer, which can be up to 30 times faster for special cases of very large files over very large bandwidth. TCP can be used for small files or smaller bandwidth connections.
MassTransit also include tools for administrators, including performance monitoring and analytics tools.
