CrossOver 12.1 improves Win business and game apps on Macs

CodeWeavers has released CrossOver 12.1, an update to the software that runs Windows applications directly on Macs, without the use of Windows. The update improves the operation of several Windows business applications and games and fixes bugs. A new setting helps with installing Windows apps automatically.

Version 12.1 increases stability with Quicken, and improves how Microsoft Office for Windows runs in OS X under CrossOver, according to CodeWeavers. Version 12.1 also fixes connection errors with Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 when connecting to Exchange Server.

The update improves PC games running in full-screen mode in OS X, including StarCraft and Fallout, and fixes a bug that prevented users from logging into World of Tank servers. CrossOver 12.1 also fixes a bug that, during the lunch of certain Windows apps, would state that some icon files could not be found .

There’s also a new preference setting that specifies what CrossOver does with an unknown Windows .exe file when a user launches such a file. Using this preference, the user can tell CrossOver either to treat the unknown .exe file as an application installer, or to simply run it.

The CrossOver 12.1 update comes just a few weeks after CodeWeavers released version 12.0, which was a major update for the software. (See "CrossOver 12 Runs Quicken 2013 and More Games on Macs.")
