ArchiveConnect 1.1 file previewing expands to Enterprise vault Monday, September 20, 2010 Group Logic has released ArchiveConnect 1.1, an update to the software that makes Mac clients more compatible with file system archiving (FSA) solutions, specifically Symantec's EnterpriseVault and CommVault's Simpana. ArchiveConnect 1.1 adds new usability enhancements and support for network-based home directory environments with active enterprise FSA deployments. The update prevents Mac OS X's Spotlight indexing process from inadvertently bringing archived network home directory files online in order to index them. In addition, the ArchiveConnect GUI has been enhanced to enable Mac users to instantly detect when a file has successfully been brought online. ArchiveConnect provides the Mac OS X Finder with archive management functions in a way that prevents mass recalls of archived files. Ordinarily, the Mac OS X Finder file previewing features Quick Look and Cover Flow trigger large numbers of recalls to servers, using a lot of server resources. ArchiveConnect allows online files to be previewed, but prevent previewing of archived files while browsing. Users can bring archived files back online.
